Summer Community-Engaged Learning

Summer Community-Engaged Learning for Credit

It is often possible to receive academic credit for a summer internship when it is coordinated with academic work. The requirements are the same as during the academic year. You can start by making an appointment to see the director of community-engaged learning. Please also take a look at the application process on the OCEL Wordpress Site.  If you have any questions, please send an email to

You will also need to complete a Community-Engaged Learning Agreement. This has two parts: Academic Work and Experiential Work. Please complete the section on Experiential Work with your agency supervisor - preferably at the time you are offered the internship. Thereafter, please complete the section on Academic Work. Once both sections are complete, please return the Agreement to the OCEL at The completed Learning Agreement must be returned to the OCEL by the end of the second week of the start of your internship. Upon receipt, we will sign the agreement and send it back to you, your faculty sponsor and your agency supervisor.

The deadline to "drop" summer work is July 15, 2021.

CEL is graded as SA (satisfactory) or UN (unsatisfactory). The student's grade takes into account the evaluation from the agency supervisor and the academic work submitted to the faculty sponsor. Students are responsible for completing and submitting academic work to their faculty sponsor by Oct. 1, 2021. The OCEL will send out an evaluation form to the agency supervisor by August 15, 2021.
